Dutch Wars, Global Trade, and the Heroic Poem: Dryden's Annus mirabilis (1666) and Amin's Sya'ir perang Mengkasar (1670).

The article examines the poems "Annus miabilis" by the English poet John Dryden and "Sya'ir perang Menkasar" or "Rhymed Chronicle of the Makassar War" by Amin, a scribe employed by the king of Makassar in Indonesia. Particular focus is given to the similar themes of the poets respective countries' wars with the Dutch United Provinces for control of the spice trade, heroic style, and promotion of official court narratives of the wars.
