Abstract

A poetry criticism is presented of book 6 of the epic poem "Posthomerica" by ancient Greek poet Quintus Smyrnaeus in which the author examines issues of intertextuality regarding Quintus' use of bee similes. The author examines Quintus' allusions to the epic poem "Argonautica," by Apollonius of Rhodes, as well as ancient poets Homer, Hesiod, and Callimachus. Topics include the nature and function of literary imitation, and the literary methods of the Alexandrian poets.
