Abstract

The article discusses Paris as one of Europe's most important centres for opera and focuses on Paris Opera's reign which is mainly attributed to composers Gioachino Rossini, an Italian, and Giacomo Meyerbeer, a German. An overview of the opera's success since Swiss-born composer Rolf Liebermann started managing it in 1973 is discussed. Photographs of the Palais Garnier, the art deco interior of the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and musical director Philippe Jordan are shown.
