Abstract

The article discusses the hazards confronted by garbage pickers in India. These rag-pickers live on pavements and bathe under street taps. Their ability to access health care for themselves and their children is reportedly of importance as fertility-related health interventions. In New Delhi, rag-pickers were exposed to radiation when they handled radioactive materials mixed in the garbage. In Hyderabad, three garbage pickers were buried alive in a mountainous garbage.
