Abstract

The author relates his experience of creating a front yard vegetable garden with his wife at their house in Edmonton, Alberta. Among the challenges they face were the position of their lot which sloped toward the street and the quackgrass under a large Colorado spruce. His wife divided the garden into zones of vegetables, perennials and ornamental shrubs. To separate their garden from the sidewalk, they planted raspberries and placed a 2-meter buffer zone of Blue Rug juniper.
