Abstract
- The article discusses a petition submitted by California commercial beekeepers and environmental organizations to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to revoke the registration of clothianidin, a neonicotinoid used in cotton for control of thrips, aphids and cutworms. The insecticide is lethal to bees by weakening the immune system making bees susceptible to pathogens and leading to Colony Collapse Disorder. The petitioners include Beyond Pesticides and Pesticide Action Network.
