Abstract
- The article discusses the theatrical references used by Roman rhetorician Marcus Fabius Quintilianus to explain his theories of public speech in the "Institutio Oratoria." Quintilian points out that delivery has a powerful effect in oratory and illustrates his concepts of delivery with theatre-oriented examples. He believes that all physical action of the body and face can be considered gesture and should be guided by the idea of speech.
