Abstract
- To convert wind power into electricity, many types of generator concepts have been used. The main wind turbine generators can be grouped into two classes : fixed and variable speed. In this paper, a characteristic study for integration of fixed speed and variable speed grid-connected wind generators, has been presented. The first is based on a squirrel cage induction generator (IG) connected directly to the grid. The second is a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based variable-speed wind turbine connected to the grid. The performances of each studied wind generator are evaluated by simulation works and variable speed operation is highlighted as preferred mode of operation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
