Abstract

The article proposes a standard test case suite for two-dimensional transport schemes on the sphere, which is meant to be used for developing model and facilitating scheme intercomparison. It notes that the test case suites are projected to assess important aspects of accuracy in geophysical fluid dynamics. The different challenges posed by the experiments for the range of transport approaches from Langrarian to Eulerian is discussed.
