Abstract

The article discusses a study which examines the effect of edible rhizome of Nelumbo nucifera on the protection against hepatic injury from non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in obese diabetic mice. The presence of polyphenolic compounds proanthocyanidins in lotus roots along with its health promoting properties is also described. The suppression of lipogenic enzyme, inflammatory genes and elevation of adiponectin serum level which has protective effect against NAFLD is reported.
