Abstract
- The author presents Aubrey William's autobiographical "A Dead Battery," which provides a personal and detailed account of the renewal of philosophies and policies related to public welfare during the period of the Great Depression and the New Deal. He discusses the excerpts that focus upon topics including role of the Federal Government in the distribution of Relief, dispute over distribution of Relief by public or private agencies and control of relief funds in southern state.
