Abstract

The article provides several ideas from contributors to the journal on ways in which higher education can be reformed. Ideas related to topics including the use of writing as a way to assess learning in all subjects, the appointment of two college presidents at each institution, and a model of providing badges, rather than grades, to students to indicate mastery of content are provided. Some of the additional recommendations regarding reform include providing students and parents with accurate calculations of out-of-pocket costs for college degrees, reprioritizing the aims of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to focus on the educational needs of college athletes, and incorporating technology into counseling and advisement services for college students.
