Abstract
- The author creates an example of a fragmented swimming history to demonstrate the practice of queer engagement. The author argues that history can be simultaneously deconstructive and creative. The author briefly discusses the concept of deconstruction and the work of the late philosopher Jacques Derrida. The author also discusses the theory and process of queer engagement in history and argues that queer engagement is a method by which historians can move beyond deconstruction. The article discusses scholarship on the history of swimming.
