Abstract
- The article explores the changes relating to the images of the Magi, or Three Kings, that occurred as a result of European expansion in America and Africa between 1492 and 1788, with a focus on the Iberian Empires. The author discusses research conducted by American historian Richard Trexler, who traced the voyage of the Magi on their journey to pay homage to the newborn Christ in Bethlehem. The author emphasizes that Trexler's research revealed that the image of the Three Kings both challenged and legitimized authority in clear historical contexts.
