Abstract

The article discusses how manufacturers can build their own model predictive control (MPC) also known as model-based control for their factories. It is said that MPC utilizes a mathematical model of a process that connects relevant parameters' relationships. The first step in building an MPC is to decide which process strategy to use. The next step is to use a process simulator to test assumptions. Manufacturers are advised to deal with problems by including some feedback element in the model. INSET: Hot water heater as process example.
