Abstract

The article highlights the skills and knowledge needed by librarians in 2013 to cater to individual research consultations. In the Spring 2011 semester, the authors conducted an exploratory study on research consultations, which covered topics on why students requested consultation and what they found valuable. They shared that the experience gained by librarians in searching all kinds of information helps them in efficiently narrowing and redirecting student's topics. Librarian's knowledge of the people on campus were also found helpful as it enabled them to refer students to subject experts. They conclude that individual consultation enables librarians to extend what goes on inside the classroom.
