Abstract

The author examines the growing popularity of Kei cars, or 60cc motor-powered Japanese cars in Japan. According to the author, Kei cars have grown popular in Japan because Japanese do not spend too much money on cars since the big earthquake and tsunami. While many Japanese prefer small cars because city streets are narrow and parking is difficult, Kei cars are not poor man's cars because many Kei cars have expensive audio, Recaro seats and Bilstein suspension.
