Abstract

The article discusses the high levels of house rents in the U.S. The housing shortage has been blamed for around one-tenth of the rise in rents and real estate prices. A large increase in building operations is noted in 1920, especially in dwelling construction. It cites the big flow of rural population into the industrial districts during the war period. Particular focus is also given to the impact of wage increases on rental rates.
