Abstract

The article reports on how American-South African Investment Co., Ltd. (ASA) became successful under the leadership of Charles W. Engelhard, chairman of Engelhard Industries. Engelhard established ASA as a closed-end investment firm. Its net assets at the end of 1961 stood at 41.4 million U.S. dollars or 34.53 U.S. dollars a share. Engelhard made a comment concerning the racial problems in South Africa.
