Abstract

The article features Pendleton, Oregon mail order cowboys' supplies provider Hamley & Co. It notes that the business has grown from a purely local harness and saddle shop in 1905 to a national and international trade. Over a thousand Hamley or Circle H saddles are reportedly produced in 1925, 90% of which are sold by mail out of a catalog. It offers a brief history of the company which was founded by J. J. Hamley, with the first "Hamley Cowboy Catalog" issued in 1909.
