Abstract
- Reports on the regulatory clearance sought by Laurence A. Tisch, owner of Loews Corp., to buy up to 25 percent of Champion International Corp.'s stock, and how this could help the paper company to manage assets better. Role of Loews's potential holdings, along with an 8% stake bought by Omaha investor Warren E. Buffett in placing 30% or more of Champion's voting power in the hands of investors; Effort of Champion's CEO Andrew C. Sigler to invoke the company's long-term interest by buying back 2.8 million shares, instituting a cost-cutting program, and investing more than $1.6 billion in modernizing plants since 1988.
