Abstract
- The article discusses a new industry developed by Harry H. Straus which created jobs, gave farmers a new cash crop and turned waste into wealth as well as freed American of dependence on precarious imports. He made cigarette paper and asked his engineering to use seed-flax straw for developing fiber flax. Strauss is trying to develop a 3rd flax-growing region in addition to Minnesota and California while his researchers are trying to find industrial uses for the wood removed from the fibers.
