Abstract

The article profiles Ernest Kurth, a capitalist, president of seven lumber companies and a newsprint mill in 1950. He owns 300,000 acres of East Texas pine and is the board chairman or director of 12 other enterprises in Texas. He was honored by some politicians and industrial leaders as the 1949 Man of the Year. He was diagnosed with a throat cancer in 1943 and his vocal chords were excised. He is the son of a German immigrant and graduated from Southwestern University.
