Abstract

The article features U.S. financial genius Floyd B. Odium and how he made money during the Depression. Odium specialized in picking up investment trusts whose stocks have suffered unusual declines that owners are willing to sell at prices even below their securities' market value. Starting with 15 million U.S. dollars in 1929, he reportedly controls 100 million U.S. dollars as of July 1933 and spreads risk by diversifying his portfolio that includes banks, utilities and shoe companies.
