Abstract

The article discusses the accurate recognition of delirium experienced by patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). It presents several reports on the use of a tool-based approach to diagnose delirium among critically ill patients. Medical personnel are warned about the negative effect of patients too sedated on delirium assessment rates. In addition, the article provides a study which examined the effect of intravenous haloperidol on the duration of delirium.
