Abstract

The article discusses political violence on Egypt's Sinai peninsula as of November 2013 from the perspective that the peninsula is becoming the most dangerous place in the Middle East. The article notes St. Catherine on Mount Sinai's slopes, which was ordered closed due to Egypt's concern that Islamists and Bedouins would attack the Greek Orthodox monastery, was reopened in September. It also notes the region's lawlessness that threatens the security of Israel and the Suez Canal.
