Abstract

The article discusses the developments at Scott Paper Co., whose onetime monopoly of the paper industry, particularly in the tissue and towel markets, has been affected by the entry of consumer goods company Procter & Gamble (P&G) and pulp and paper company Georgia-Pacific in the 1960s. In the 234 million dollars facial tissues market, Scott had seven competitors ad demand growth was not over two percent annually. The author notes the failure of Scott to defend its position in the markets.
