Abstract

The article discusses patterns in the U.S. unemployment rates, focusing on statistics which suggest that there is not a fixed group of jobless people but rather a flow of laborers in and out of unemployment. The demographic trends as of October 1976 is explored, with focus on employment of teenagers, women, and Blacks. U.S. Government policies against unemployment and the relation between workers' skills and job opportunities are also reviewed.
