Abstract

The article reports on the estimated influenza illnesses and hospitalizations that were averted by influenza vaccination in the U.S. in the 2012-2013 influenza season. A model used by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to estimate outcomes prevented by vaccination is cited. Influenza vaccination resulted in 6.6 million fewer illnesses from October 2012 to May 2013. Vaccination coverage rates were derived from vaccination status according to survey respondents.
