Abstract

The article discusses the campaign progress, political strategy and legislative issues concerning the U.S. government's efforts in the war in Afghanistan as of December 2013. The engagement of the U.S. military beyond the end of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission in December 2014 is said to be dependent upon the achievement of a U.S.-Afghan Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA). U.S. efforts in Afghanistan include counterinsurgency, political support and economic assistance.
