Abstract
- The synthesis of homoleptic gallium(III) bis(dimethylsilyl)amide Ga[N(SiHMe<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>]<subscript>3</subscript> was attempted via different pathways. A transsilylamination protocol using Ga[N(SiMe<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>]<subscript>3</subscript> and HN(SiHMe<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript> was unsuccessfully applied. An unexpected side product, MeGa[N(SiMe<subscript>3</subscript>)SiMe<subscript>2</subscript>N(SiMe<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>]<subscript>2</subscript>, could be obtained from the synthesis of homoleptic gallium(III) bis(trimethylsilyl)amide via GaCl<subscript>3</subscript> and LiN(SiMe<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>. Alkane elimination from Me<subscript>3</subscript>Ga or Et<subscript>3</subscript>Ga and HN(SiHMe<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript> did not lead to the isolation of Ga[N(SiHMe<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>]<subscript>3</subscript> either. When a salt metathesis route was conducted, reacting GaCl<subscript>3</subscript> with LiN(SiHMe<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>, the silylamido-bridged dimeric hydride complex {H<subscript>2</subscript>Ga[μ-N(SiHMe<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>]}<subscript>2</subscript> was obtained. Its further reaction with N,N,N′, N′-tetramethylethylendiamine (tmeda) gave the dinuclear, tmeda-bridged {[H<subscript>2</subscript>GaN(SiHMe<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>]<subscript>2</subscript>(μ-tmeda)}.
