Energy indicators series: analyzing the energy-related evidence of economic transition in the Pacific Rim.

The article considers energy consumption as an economic indicator for developing countries in the Asian region of the Pacific Rim including Philippines, South Korea and Thailand. The overall high rate of economic development of countries in the region from 1945-1992 is discussed. A resulting increase in energy consumption primarily due to industrialization and an increase in transportation is discussed. The lack of power resources in countries in the region and their corresponding dependence on imports subject to volatility in prices are examined.
