Investigates the inflammatory response in African tick-bite fever (ATBF), an emerging spotted-fever-group rickettsiosis, in international travelers to sub-Saharan Africa. Increased levels of von Willebrand factor and soluble E-selectin in patients with ATBF; Increased levels of cytokines and chemokines with the exception of interferon-gamma; Tendency of interleukin (IL)-10 and IL-13 to increase at follow-up.
