Abstract

This article reports on a study which explored the potential of structural equation model to deal with measurement error using as an exemplar the estimation of an estimated average glucose regression equation. Researchers used data from a 12-month randomised controlled trial aimed at assessing the effect of self monitoring of blood glucose on glycaemic control in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. It is suggested that the approach have wider applications in laboratory medicine.
