Abstract

This paper presents a mobility-based routing protocol developed for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). WSNs present some characteristics that make them different from traditional wireless networks. Firstly, the hardware limitations make them low power, low memory and with low processing capabilities. Secondly, the ad hoc approach of this type of networks makes them challenging for protocol designers. In this work, we developed a protocol to forward messages from the nodes to the sink in a effective manner. The protocol calculates for each path a cost based on the error probability during transmission, and selects the path with lowest cost. Constant information exchange about paths and their cost allows to keep the path information up-to-date, and avoids the use of dead links generated by node's mobility. Simulation results show that this approach can deliver more packets and use less energy than the regular Flooding approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
