Brain sections of hippocampus and fimbria area were obtained from 15-week-old ZrchI Prnp-/- mice previously infected with 600 pfu/mouse of EMCV-B on post-infection day (DPI) 7. Sections used in the TUNEL method were counterstained with hematoxylin and eosin. CA1 pyramidal cells in the hippocampus of Rikn Prnp-/- mice showed apoptosis.
