Abstract
- The article comments on the unprecedented policy on youth-oriented tobacco marketing implemented by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In the U.S., tobacco taxes were raised by voters. They also allocated revenues to anti-smoking media campaigns. There are 40 states that have filed legal actions against the tobacco industry for health hazards. In the cities, public smoking are mostly prohibited. Despite increasing citizen concerns, tobacco companies found ways to earn more profits. Children's smoking has risen annually since the early 1990s. The U.S. Congress is torn between the amount of taxes remitted by tobacco companies and caring for the public's health.
