Abstract

The article discusses the willingness of the United Launch Alliance (ULA) to develop a next-generation rocket engine without government investment although a purely private program may deliver the U.S. less advanced propulsion technology. Topics discussed include ULA's investigation of next-generation liquid oxygen (LOX)/hydrocarbon first stage propulsion concepts and a minimal amount of government investment with respect to a next-generation engine program.
