Abstract

The study records that, in 2014, the Romanian Armed Forces celebrate two significant moments in their history -155 years since the birth of Marshal Alexandra Averescu and 155 years since the establishment of the General Staff. The study documents the role of Alexandru Averescu in the staff structures, including as the Chief of the General Staff between 1911 and 1913. In this capacity, he prepared and led the campaign of the Romanian Armed Forces duringthe Second Balkan War (1913). During the First World War, Alexandru Averescu led the Second Army, with whom he achieved the brilliant victory of Mărăsti. Then, he opted for a political career, being Prime Minister in 1920-1921 and in 1926-1927. Alexandru Averescu remains in the national history as one of the most prominent military leaders.
