Abstract

Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) are the new generation of solar cells that have their advantages such as transparency, flexibility and low cost production. This has certainly attracted researchers in the field of green technology to further develop DSSC. The focus is on the efficiency, as it is low at this point of time, as compared to silicon based solar cells. In this paper, the effect of TiCl<subscript>4</subscript> treatment on the efficiency of DSSC by treating the conducting glass and TiO<subscript>2</subscript> layer was studied and results showed that the TiCl<subscript>4</subscript> treatment on the conducting glass and the printed TiO<subscript>2</subscript> film increased the efficiency from 3.45% to 4.43%. The TiO<subscript>2</subscript> layer was characterized by using FESEM and AFM and the efficiency of the DSSC was measured by using the sunlight simulator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
