Abstract

The article presents literary criticism of the book "Yūjo monogatari: kukai 4nen no jikken kokuhaku (A prostitute's tale: Experimental confessions of a four-year abyss) by Wada Yoshiko. According to the author, the book describes the life of a licensed sex worker in Tokyo, Japan and illustrates changing attitudes towards prostitutes in Japanese print culture. It is suggested that Wada used historic depictions of prostitutes and portrayed them as sources of authentic and useful knowledge.
