Abstract

Cites a World Wildlife Fund report which suggests that the American pika, a small flower-gathering relative of the rabbit, may be one of the first mammals in North America known to fall victim to global warming if changes are not made urgently. Disappearance of pikas from seven of the 25 studied areas where they used to be abundant; Possible extinction of the pika if the global warming trend continues.
