Abstract
- The article discusses the pioneering contributions of women from the low countries especially the widow of the printer Roland van den Dorpe from Antwerp, Belgium in the book printing trade. Topics include the contributions of the first recorded female printer Anna Riigerin who hailed from Augsburg, Germany, how the wives of printers got involved in their husband's business and the social position held by widows in late medieval society.
