Abstract

This article charges economists generally with the ideological responsibility of understanding something of the nature and functioning of the ideology of society, and to convey this knowledge to the less advantaged community. The paper is concerned, in particular, with the ideological and mythological bases in orthodoxy for productivity, for property rights, for earned income and the like. What determines how well off any community may be is its science and industrial arts. A Welfare State is favored because it tends to give the whole community the greatest possible encouragement to create more.
