Abstract
- This article concentrates on German sociologist Max Weber and his sociology of organization. The author points out that in order to understand sociology in general and the sociology of organization in particular, it is necessary to get acquainted with the work of Weber. His method of thinking brings together the methods of the natural and cultural sciences of his time. Construction of ideal types of the salient features of the object under analysis, and keeping own values apart from the values of the people under study, help someone to understand the matter himself or herself and to explain it to others. These ideas play important roles in Weber's method in research. Weberian sociology combines understanding of meanings in the minds of the acting individuals together with objective understanding of their causes and effects. His typology of various forms of authority builds upon his classification of social action. His detailed analysis of bureaucratization shows that it goes hand in hand with rationalization of social life. He was a protagonist of rationalism, capitalism, and democracy. Weber was of the firm view that religious ethics can promote or hinder the growth of rational-legal organizations.
