Abstract
- The article discusses a study which compared U.S. college students' competence and confidence for the slope of a line, a concept for students to understand mathematics. The study identified the roles of the concept in precalculus and the calculus sequence. It revealed that 33 percent of college students were very confident in their understanding of the concept.
