Abstract

A study was undertaken to prepare chitosan encapsulated peste des petits ruminants (PPR) vaccine using live attenuated PPR vaccine and evaluate its viability. Live attenuated PPR virus vaccine (AR-87) was encapsulated in chitosan nanoparticles using ionic gelation technique. Chitosan nanoparticles containing the live virus vaccine (PPRV-CS-NPs) was found to be spherical and size ranged from 699.51 nm to 920.75 nm by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The viability of PPRV in the PPRV-CSNPs was confirmed by releasing the virus from nanoparticles by trypsin digestion. Thermostability was assessed for both PPRV (AR-87) and PPRV-CS-NPs. PPRV-CS-NPs had marginally higher thermostability when compared to the live attenuated PPRV (AR-87) vaccine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
