Abstract

All over the world, women's education has been neglected for a long time. This neglect has its foundation in the strong and cherished ageold belief in men's superiority and women's subordination. In recent years, it has been acknowledged that women possess hidden potentials that if fully developed, will contribute greatly in transforming their homes and the society at large. Consequently several efforts have been made to improve women's participation in all sectors of the economy including education. Thus this paper deemed it fit to examine the position of women in educational sector, specifically in Nigeria. It was observed that the gender gap still persists. The paper pointed out the major factors that have contested gender parity in education, enumerated the implication of the gender gap, and proffered recommendations for the way forward.
