Abstract

In this article the author opines that lauding the Brazil's Marco Civil as a global legal template is a hallmark example of what the critical anthropologist, Anita Say Chan, describes as "the myth of digital universalism", the presumption that digital technologies, and their associated cultural forms, flow smoothly around the globe and present a uniform set of effects irrespective of socio-cultural variation. Topics include the belief in the neutral transfer of Internet law.
