Abstract
- The continuing professional development is very crucial to almost every profession today, library and information professionals are no exception. Obviously, they do need to be updated to serve their clients effectively and efficiently. This study was conducted with the purpose to assess the CPD aspects of the librarians working in the public and private sector universities of District Peshawar. The quantitative research design was applied to survey 110 librarians working in these universities. The data was collected through a self-designed questionnaire. The data received with 80% response rate was analyzed through SPSS and implications were drawn. It showed that CPD programs for library professionals were conducted rarely because of the unwillingness of the authorities or unawareness of the CPD needs by the professionals. Therefore, this research recommends to introduce the CPD as a normal practice in LIS profession, should be imbedded in promotional setup, the professional association should focus on the CPD of professionals and the schools of Library and information science should play their role by organizing seminars, conferences and workshops to cater the CPD needs of the librarians to equip them with a variety of hard and soft skills essential for the promotion and advancement of their profession and professional carrier.
